Challenge: Establish building's energy recovery performance while implementing unique critical programming designed to include advanced rehabilitation, optimal medical care for the short-term patient journey from hospital to home.
Solution: To use an analytical approach to produce an integrated program of operational effectiveness, energy efficiency, advance rehabilitation and superior amenities unlike any other facility of its kind for every aspect of the 124 private room, 87,000 square foot facility.
PowerBack has a Physician on staff all day. Its specialty medical services are provided by specialists that include Nurse Practitioners and Nurses trained in Cardiac, Orthopedic and Pulmonary Management, Consulting Cardiologist and Pulmonologist, Therapists, Consulting Pharmacist and Nutritionists.
Most of the power needed for the facility is designed to be generated from solar power. The center's entire solar paneled roof (94KW of power generated) works in tandem with the roof's reflective TPO roof (thermoplastic polyolefin membrane) for peak performance. Additionally, high efficiency solar windows throughout the center keep heat in and UV rays out.
To meet the high volume food production without sacrificing quality and conserving energy (healthy food choices are served in the center's restaurant style dining room for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with menu selections available 24 hours a day,) Burris designed and constructed the kitchen area to incorporate induction cooking. This energy recovery system cooks foods faster, eliminates use of flames or red-hot heating elements and heats only the pot and not the air around the vessel. Cooling air is blown through the electronics and emerges slightly warmer than ambient temperatures, thus curtailing continuous use of exhaust fans.
Additional cost saving energy efficiencies are Geo Thermal well system; heat recovery systems; water furnace heat pumps; R 24 side wall insulation and R 42 ceiling insulation; 10,000 gallons of grey water capture for irrigation and flushing toilets; LED lighting throughout; laundry dryer heat exhaust recovery system.
PowerBack's private room accommodations combine classic ambience with modern amenities that include private bath with European shower, insulation for noise control, 42" HD TV, in-room refrigerator, recliners and pull out sofa for overnight visitors.
The facility also offers concierge services, outdoor public spaces, courtyard, full size theatre and full service salon.
Always the pioneering leader, Burris has incorporated a radically functional aquatic therapy pool in its healthcare facility design build process – the HydroWorx 2000 Series. Now part of PowerBack's 5,000 square foot rehabilitation suite, the pool's advanced technology features underwater treadmills, resistance therapy jets, hydro massage, variable water temperature and removable stainless steel support bars. The pool's raised floor slowly lowers into any water depth up to six feet and accommodates up to six people during therapy workout sessions.
Therapeutic equipment also includes recumbent bikes, omnicycles, bladder scanner, ECG machine, new standing machines, and outpatient therapy with private entrance.
"What a great article! The building looks amazing, you outdid yourself!! Congratulations on your success with this new start…when we ever build a new building or renovate an existing one, I want YOU!!!"
